The theme for Disney Wordless Wednesday this week is Resorts & Relaxation. Our favourite resort at Disney World is the Grand Floridian – the perfect resort for relaxing away from the theme parks.
The theme for Disney (Almost) Wordless Wednesday this week is Resorts & Relaxation. My favourite Disney World resort is the Victorian-style Grand Floridian located along the shore of the Seven Seas Lagoon.
Our family has stayed here a couple of times and found that it’s close proximity to Magic Kingdom via monorail made it ideal for returning for a mid-afternoon break from the crowds in the park to play on the white sand beach or in the pools.
The architecture of the resort is reminiscent of the grand sea side resorts of another era which made me feel like I had been transported far from the hustle and bustle of the theme parks and to a time when the perfect holiday was just relaxing by the sea. The Grand Floridian would be perfect for treating moms to a special Mother’s Day weekend.

Gorgeous pictures! Hoping to stay there once the DVC villas open up.
Lisa Goodmurphy
Thanks, Holly! I didn’t know that there were villas opening up at the Grand Floridian – that would be amazing to have the fabulous resort plus extra space!
Mary @ The World Is A Book
Beautiful! There’s a lot about this resort that reminds me of the Hotel del Coronado here in SD. I hope you have a very relaxing Mother’s Day weekend.
DisneyDayByDay
Great shots and so many places to relax at the Grand Floridian.
Lisa Goodmurphy
We stayed at the del Coronado when we were in San Diego and they are very similar – I love that look! Happy Mother’s Day to you as well, Mary! π
Lisa Goodmurphy
Thank you – it is a very relaxing resort!
Beth
so cute! I’d love to stay at the GF one day….
disneykatrina
We were there in April – well there as in visiting so we could dine at 1900 Park Fare. I wonder if I could convince my husband to add a day to our fall trip so we could do some research and stay at the GF π
Steve
Love the look of the hotel. It really does look like the Hotel del Coronado on steroids. Hope the rooms are bigger in the Grand Floridian.
Lisa Wood
Gosh that is amazing! Staying there would be so much fun – and the location sounds perfect π Escaping from the theme park crowds in the afteroon (to the beach or the pool) sounds like a great way to see Disney..now to find someone to shout us tickets to come on over and stay there π
Debs at Focused on the Magic
Beautiful pictures, so relaxing! Your girls are adorable and look like they’re having a Grand time! I loved staying at The GF! Escaping to the resort for an afternoon swim was delightful!
Thanks so much for sharing and for linking up today!
Disney on Wheels
Beautiful! We haven’t stayed there yet, only visited, but it seems like it would make a Disney vacation a little more relaxing. π

One day, we’re going to spend an entire day at the Grand Floridian- without moving! It is SUCH a beautiful spot.
Amy@DisneyLiving
Fun pics! I’ve never stayed here though we did visit 1900 Park Fare once. It’s simply stunning.
Colorado Mountain Mom
Oooh… nice choice. I agree, Grand Floridian has a lovely peaceful & relaxing atmosphere!
Haven’t stayed there, we just like to go eat and explore – I know I would love that close location, too! (It’s pretty much all about the Magic Kingdom for me π
Lucinda @Without a Care in the World
Really nothing better than a Monorail resort!
I love all your GF photos, but the second one is positively splendid. :o)
Lisa Goodmurphy
Thanks, Beth! You would love the Grand Floridian!
Lisa Goodmurphy
Research sounds like the perfect reason to me!
Lisa Goodmurphy
The rooms may be getting a bit cramped for us now that the kids are bigger – that’s why we decided to try off-site the last time in a suites hotel. Katie will be going off to university soon though and then we’ll be able to go back to the Grand Floridian! π
Lisa Goodmurphy
Thanks, Lisa! I enjoy the break in the afternoon to have some resort time. The kids needed it when they were younger but sometimes now they are happy to go all day.
Beth D.
We have never stayed at the Grand Floridian, but I do love at least stopping by once each trip because it is so beautiful!
Christina
Wow, those are beautiful pictures. I would love to be at the Grand Floridian right now! Well, to be perfectly honest, anywhere at WDW would suit me just fine right about now. π
Amy
Lisa, Maybe you can answer a question for me about Disney resorts. I’ve been told that it is really nice to stay “on the property.” Since the Grand Floridian is linked by the monorail, is that what is meant by, “on the property?”
Lisa Goodmurphy
Hi Amy! Generally when someone talks about being “on the property” at Disney they are referring to staying at any of the Disney hotels. The Grand Floridian, the Polynesian and the Contemporary are all on the monorail, however, the other resorts are all serviced by Disney transportation as well – either bus or ferry. There are perks associated with staying at one of the Disney hotels such as extended hours in certain parks on certain days which means that guests staying at any of the Disney hotels are allowed in early and get to stay later.
Let me know if you have any other questions. We have been to Disney World 6 times and have also been on a Disney cruise, spent a day at Disneyland California and one at Disneyland Paris. We have stayed at the Polynesian Resort three times, the Grand Floridian twice and on our most recent trip we chose to stay off property.

Very cute shots π

Thanks, Debs! I love having a relaxing afternoon break from the theme parks and the Grand Floridian is definitely my favourite place to have it!
Lisa Goodmurphy
It is very relaxing – when lounging around the pool area I almost forget where I am!
Lisa Goodmurphy
Now that’s a great idea! A relaxing resort day right in the middle of the week would be perfect!
Lisa Goodmurphy
It is a beautiful resort and 1900 Park Fare has one of my favourite character meals.
Lisa Goodmurphy
I hear ya – we spend more time at Magic Kingdom than anywhere else – even now that the kids are older!
Lisa Goodmurphy
Thanks, Lucinda!!
Lisa Goodmurphy
It is beautiful – it’s like visiting a bygone, more genteel era!
Lisa Goodmurphy
Hmmm – Disney World right now – sounds good to me too! π
Lisa Goodmurphy
Thanks, Diane!
Sabrina
So exciting! I might go to a conference in that exact hotel this September π
Lisa Goodmurphy
That is exciting – you will love it!!

I can’t wait to take my son to Disney. I know he would so love it!

GF will always have a special place in my heart. That’s where we had our honeymoon.
Lisa Goodmurphy
What a beautiful spot for a honeymoon!
