Disney Wordless Wednesday – Theme: Transportation
The theme for Disney (Almost) Wordless Wednesday this week is transportation which lends itself to a lot of possibilities. There are cruise ships, monorails, safari vehicles, jungle boats, horse drawn trolleys, and even flying elephants and magic carpets but the most memorable ride our family has had at Disney was on Casey Jr. at Disneyland Paris.Β

Now my memory can be a bit fuzzy sometimes but I did recall having been on the Casey Jr. train ride at Disneyland in Anaheim a year or so before our trip to Paris and it was a rather sedate little chug around Story Book Land so when Katie suggested that we ride it in Paris I readily agreed.
Now this is where you need a little background information. I don’t ride roller coasters. Never. I haven’t even been on the relatively tame ones like Thunder Mountain or Splash Mountain or even Goofy’s Barnstormer. I get all the thrill I can handle sailing through It’s A Small World or flying over London on Peter Pan’s Flight and no amount of begging or pleading will get me on a roller coaster even with all the assurance in the world that it’s slow and not scary at all. And my kids know this.
As we entered the queue for Le Petit Train de CirqueΒ I was still operating under the assumption that this was the same ride that I had been on in California. Once we were in line, I should have seen this as fair warning.
I caught a glimpse of the train and it seemed to be going a bit fast but Katie assured me that she had been checking it out earlier and that it was just like the ride in California.
About 2 seconds into the ride I realized that I was indeed on a small roller coaster and Casey Jr. whipped around that little track for a full 2.5 minutes with me screaming and Katie laughing hysterically beside me. I’m thankful that there’s no photo evidence but it was definitely a memorable train ride and one I expect to be reminded of for quite some time.

Oh that looks like a fun ride, great pictures. I can’t wait to someday get to DLP

I would have been under the same assumption as you, that it would be the same as the Disneyland version, which is so boring that even my youngest will ride it. Has Katie fessed up to knowing what you were getting into yet, or was it actually a surprise for her as well?

At least that long!! π

The Paris park is charming – you would love it!

Oh, she wasn’t surprised – she had checked it out and realized that she could trick me – rotten little kid!! π

I loved Disneyland Paris – it’s small but there are quite a few things that are a bit different from the North American parks – and it oozes European charm!

My kids used to love the Casey Jr in Anaheim but refuse to go on it now. Glad you survived this ride. Points to Katie for letting you go on a rollercoaster. It coudn’t have been as bad as Harry Potter and you made it through that one=)

Oh my! Thanks for the warning! I’m not exactly a coaster fan myself and we’re going to DLP in Dec. What a great family story that will be told for generations, I’m sure:)
Thanks so much for sharing and for joining in on the blog hop fun!
Colorado Mountain Mom
This totally cracked me up! I can only imagine what a kick your daughter got out of that experience … it really is kinda funny that a mom would be screaming in terror on a kids roller coaster. ;-D
The pics are great – so colorful! Aren’t you glad they fooled you?!
Amy
That is soooo funny! I wish you had one of those crazy pictures the theme parks take while you’re screaming your head off! But, I can totally see it in my mind. So funny!

The only reason I went on the Harry Potter ride is because it “wasn’t a roller coaster” – that didn’t turn out too well for me either! π I survived but I will never be a fan of fast rides or motion simulators. π
Lisa Goodmurphy
Well, don’t let me scare you off because most people would describe Casey Jr. as a mild ride – in fact, I think the age restriction is that it’s suitable for kids over 1 year of age. π I just really, really hate any type of fast ride!
Lisa Goodmurphy
Perhaps just a little bit glad because it is rather a funny story. And I’m really just a big baby screaming on a kiddie coaster! π
Lisa Goodmurphy
Yeah, I don’t think they can be bothered taking photos at rides where most of the passengers are 3 feet tall and thrilled by their fast little train ride! I’m a big baby when it comes to theme park rides and I have no problem admitting it. π

That is great! My kids love the Disneyland (CA) Casey Jr. Train. Kids these days, they have iron stomachs!

I can’t see Casey Jr. without immediately starting to sing the “Casey Jr. comin’ down the track…” in my head (the Dumbo theme!). Because apparently I’m still five years old at heart =)

I’m so sorry we missed this! I, too, thought this was the Anaheim version- and skipped it. Yet another reason to go back!!!

That has happened to me, too, complete hysteria when I ended up on a ride called the Octopus at the Canadian National Exhibition. As our “pod” left the ground and began to whirl violently, I realized the floor was patched with a loose piece of plywood. My son was very slight and I was sure he’d slip out from behind the bar or through the plywood patch; he was having a good time until he was mortified by mom’s meltdown. Adrenaline I don’t enjoy. And I’m sure the attendant left us up there extra long for extra yuks! At least at any Disney park you can rest assured the rides are in excellent repair, and I have to say, the Disney engineering amazes.

I am so glad that I read this because I think you and i have the same roller coaster tolerance level. I also have an equally mischevious kid who would try to trick me.

Five at heart is a great age to be! π

I can think of lots of excuses to get back to Disneyland Paris! π
Lisa Goodmurphy
Me, not so much! π Again, it is a very tame roller coaster though – I don’t want anyone to get the wrong idea based on my complete lack of courage! π

What an awful experience!! We’ve never been to the CNE and I won’t let my kids go on midway rides because I worry about safety – as far as I’m concerned, if you are taking it down and setting it up repeatedly there is too much room for error. Disney, I trust!

I thought I had the only kid that got a kick out of tricking Mom! π
