Disney Wordless Wednesday post – Theme: The letter ‘C’.
The theme for Disney (Almost) Wordless Wednesday this week is The Letter ‘C’ which immediately brings to my mind an image of Castaway Cay, Disney’s private Bahamian island. Castaway Cay is a tropical paradise reserved exclusively for the use of Disney Cruise Line‘s passengers and is one of the most popular ports on it’s Bahamian and Caribbean cruises.
We were on a 7 day multi-generational Western Caribbean cruise on the Disney Magic and had already stopped in Key West, Grand Cayman and Costa Maya prior to Castaway Cay which was the final port of call on the last full day of our cruise. We had been having an amazing time at that point but Castaway Cay was so much fun that it was easily the best day of the entire cruise.
To the delight of Katie and Emma, characters dressed for the beach greeted us as we disembarked from the ship on a beautiful, sunny St. Patrick’s Day.
We spent most of the day playing on the white sand beach and swimming in the clear turquoise water.
There are a number of water sport activities available for guests and it was in the clear water of Castaway Cay where Katie tried snorkeling for the first time (and received her first sunburn in the process because she didn’t think that she needed sunscreen reapplied).
There is an open-air barbecue dining area for guests to lunch and shops with unique Castaway Cay souvenirs to browse. There’s a long list of activities available on the island and we didn’t take advantage of most of them which means that there’s a pretty good reason to visit again.
As we departed the island, we stopped to mail some postcards from the Castaway Cay Post Office and Chip and Dale were on hand for farewell hugs which hopefully meant “until we meet again” rather than “goodbye“.

We loved Castaway Cay. We think that is still the best private island out of all the cruise lines. Loved the pictures. The girls look so young and adorable here.

Thanks – you’ll love it!!

Thanks, Deb! I agree – as far as I’m concerned they could just anchor the ship on Castaway Cay for a week and I’d be perfectly happy!

That looks SO INCREDIBLY FUN! Have heard Castaway Cay itself is almost worth the price of admission on a Disney Bahamas cruise! Can’t wait … hopefully some day π
Amy @ Red Eye Family
I agree with Mary, Castaway Cay is the best private island out there for cruising! As with all things Disney, it is so clean, fun, and family friendly. Loved the pictures. They brought back great memories.
Beth @ TheAngelForever
Castaway Cay looks amazing. One of these days I hope to go on a cruise with the kids. We have talked about making it more of an extended family reunion, but not sure if everyone would be open to it.

These are such adorable photos- NOTHING beats Castaway Cay. Your beautiful family should be used in the Disney Cruise Line commercials!!

Looks so fun! I’d love the island part, but I don’t know if I could do the whole cruise thing…I’m a bit claustrophobic.
Jeannie
What a fun treat for the kids! I’ve heard great things about Disney cruises but have never been on one myself. The other cruises I’ve been on were great, and I can only imagine that Disney does theirs first class all the way!

Castaway Cay is paradise and it was definitely our favourite port day!
Lisa Goodmurphy
Thanks, Amy – it is definitely an ideal island to spend the day playing on!

Thanks, Beth! We had one set of grandparents with us on the Disney cruise. We have cruised with them 3 times altogether and I think cruises are great for multi-generational trips. It’s easy for everyone to do their own thing and have fun during the day before meeting up for a nice family dinner. If you can talk your family into it they would all have an amazing time!
Lisa Goodmurphy
Ah, thank you – that’s very sweet! π
Lisa Goodmurphy
Absolutely no doubt that your kids would love it – and you and your wife would too!
Lisa Goodmurphy
This was my first ever cruise and I was a bit concerned about whether I would like it but, to be quite honest, once we were onboard I hardly ever thought about the fact that we were on a ship. We’ve now been on a total of 5 cruises and I love that feeling of being at sea! I would definitely be sure to have a balcony as I think it helps with feelings of claustrophobia.
Lisa Goodmurphy
Disney definitely has that special touch in making everything wonderful for the kids!

we are thinking of a short cruise, hoping to try one over the Xmas period. Love the idea of relaxing and playing in clear waters.

I think you’ll love going on a cruise, Lisa – just put your feet up, relax for a few days and let someone pamper you!
