Instagram Travel Thursday: Daydreams of Beaches
This has been the longest winter in the memory of most people in the Toronto area. Thanks to the Polar Vortex, the City of Toronto has issued 35 Extreme Cold Weather Alerts and one snow storm after another has resulted in a record-breaking 100 consecutive days with snow on the ground.
Winter has been relentless and although tomorrow may be the official first day of spring, weather forecasters are advising that temperatures will continue well below normal for the foreseeable future. Even as we near the end of March, winter does not seem inclined to loosen its grip so I’m resorting to daydreaming about beaches via my Instagram photos.
I have been fortunate to get away to some warm weather destinations several times this year – and I’m not sure that I would have survived the winter otherwise! These are my favourite beach instagrams from a trip to Beaches Resort in Jamaica in December, a Southern Caribbean holiday cruise on the Crown Princess and a spring break trip to Atlantis Resort on Paradise Island in the Bahamas.
Beaches Negril – Jamaica
Early in December, my 10 year-old daughter Emma and I had the opportunity to spend a fun-filled weekend at the Beaches Resort in Negril, Jamaica.
Princess Southern Caribbean Cruise
Over the holidays, we went on a family cruise to the Southern Caribbean on the Crown Princess with stops at the cruise line’s private Bahamian island, Princess Cays, CuraΓ§ao, and Aruba. We flew south just a few days after a major ice storm had pummelled the Toronto area which made it all the more sweet to be able to spend a few days basking in the Caribbean sun.
Atlantis Resort – Bahamas
My teen daughter, Katie, spent her spring break on a service trip to Costa Rica so the rest of us headed to the Bahamas to spend a few nights at the incredible Atlantis Resort on Paradise Island.
Spring will arrive sooner or later but, in the meantime, I’ll be scrolling through my Instagram pics and daydreaming about beaches!

We’ve had an unusually mild winter here in Norway, so not the same need… but then, there’s always time for the beach π

I’ve had zero beach time this winter, so I’ll scroll through these too.

Lovely beach photos. The English winter was miserable with flooding, I would have loved to have some snow instead. Beach photos are always welcome though, especially more tropical ones as the local beaches might look lovely but the water is so cold always!

Gorgeous! One of my blogging students recently wrote a blog post about how she “collects” beaches – I love the idea of travelling the world to discover new and better beaches. Although personally I think our Western Australian beaches are the best of all (not that I’m biased … much!)!

I loved it when you there. Atlantis is on my list. I attended a wedding before I was married in Nassau at Sandals and I never understood why they didn’t host the wedding on Paradise Island. It’s so much nicer, in my opinion. We walked around the ATlantis that day and I vowed to return one day.

So you’re totally teasing me with all these beach shots and you’re also making me realize that we haven’t planned for our resort vacay for the year! We only do an all inclusive every other year and that too for a few days but I completely haven’t got it in our plans!! eeks.. better start planning!

I would never turn down the chance to head to a beach! π

Enjoy, Katja! Let’s hope that winter is almost over and we’ll soon have summer beach scenes to enjoy!

It seems that there has been a lot of crazy weather on both sides of the ocean this winter. Hopefully we have a very nice spring ahead of us!!

Love the idea of collecting beaches! Hopefully I will get to Australia one day to see how your beaches compare!

Atlantis is a gorgeous property, Leigh, and suitable for everyone! My kids absolutely love it but there is so much for adults as well. I highly recommend it!

Time to start planning, Yashy – apparently spring isn’t going to arrive any time soon! You should consider one of the Beaches properties – your daughter would love the Sesame Street characters!!

35 Extreme Cold Weather Alerts!! That sounds harsh…
I love all these beach images, my Instagram feed filled with beached too while we were in New Zealand π Now it’s back to the cold Northern Europe though!

I really want to visit Atlantis some day. Otherwise, I will admit that I’ve become rather spoiled living on a tropical island. We’re the opposite of you and have to go on vacation in order to experience winter.

This winter has been so sucky in Finland, I could really use a beach getaway, though I’m usually more of a mountain girl! π

While I don’t think our Colorado winter has been THAT bad (in fact, it hasn’t been wintery enough for me!) your beautiful fun-in-the-sun photos make me wish for a beach vacation! Thank you for sharing!

Thanks, Muza-chan!!

I loved your New Zealand photos! Hopefully spring is coming soon to the northern hemisphere and we can start featuring beaches again!

Your kids would love Atlantis, Michele! We had a little snow again overnight so I’m dreaming of living on a tropical island! π

It seems it’s the time of year that everyone could use a beach getaway!!

There’s nothing like someone else’s vacation photos to make one want to head to the beach!! π
